Making Strides Walk on the Milwaukee Lakefront

This event has been a long-time favorite for MAPA and we've always had a great time. We'll be meeting starting at 9:00 am on the small hill on the north side of the Discovery World Museum. We'll be there with the MAPA banner once again to make it easy to find us! The walk starts at 10:00.

Social Director Terry Grinker has us all set up on the ACS website, so join the team and start your collections! Visit our page, join and see our team's progress.

Our Post-Walk party will be at O'Lydia's Pub, 1st and Florida. If the weather's great, they have a wonderful deck, otherwise we can enjoy our festivities and their atrium bar. And for those hard-core partiers, some of us will be attending the Brew City Bruisers Ladies Roller Derby Final Championship match at the U.S. Cell Arena that evening. 6pm.

Thursday, May 3rd
Jimmy Buffet added to the Jazz Fest lineup

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Jimmy Buffett will replace Pearl Jam singer and guitarist Eddie Vedder in the May 3 lineup at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Vedder canceled when he postponed his 15-city U.S. solo tour because of nerve damage in his right arm stemming from a back injury earlier this year. Buffett is a Jazz Fest veteran who has built an empire based largely on such Caribbean-flavored rock hits as "Margaritaville." He first performed at Jazz fest in 1989. This time, Buffett will leave his rock band behind and sing and play acoustic guitar with Mac McAnally, a Mississippi native named the Country Music Association's Musician of the Year for the past four years in a row.

Jim Hoehn opens for Roger Clyne, Shank Hall

Of course we all know and love Jim. If you don't, go and see him once and you'll be hooked too! Check him out. Here's an excerpt from the Shank Hall website about Roger Clyne:

"A third generation Arizonan, songwriter Roger Clyne regularly bares his soul in rock 'n' roll originals that are often tinted with Southwest influences: a verse in Spanish here or a line about a desert landscape there. However, ¡Americano! takes Clyne's experiences a step further and combines his popular lyrical style with an energetic rage of an album, reaffirming years of blood, sweat and tours."

Saturday, February 25th
MAPA's own Tiki Tim brings his terrific show to the stage. Great music and lots of fun at Jimmy's Island Grill and Iguana Bar.

A great thanks to all who attended and volunteered at our 3rd annual "Parrothead Sundaze" at Matty Gras Festival.

News reports indicate that the city's biggest weekend festivals had low attendance due to the over abundance of rain, but our feathers were high and dry and we were having a great time safely under the huge tent at Matty Gras. We competed with Irish Fest, Zoo Ala Carte and several other major Parrothead events around the country and region last weekend.

Here are some of the highlights...
17 of our members showed up to help park cars, greet guests and hand out postcards about our club and our big Sunday event. At least 30 of our members showed up Sunday with 19 as volunteers to help set up, work the booth, sell silent auctions and raffles tickets, promote our club and finally to help tear down at the end. Great Job and Thanks to all!

While all of this was going on we were treated to some great music all day! Opening shortly after noon, Caribbean Eclipse rocked the tent with their tropical and reggae renditions of all our favorites. True professionals with awesome steel drum sounds! This band is local, Contact them if you would like to be added to their mailing list for upcoming events.

Next up, Pirates Over 40 once again gave us a great show with some of the best Buffett covers in the Midwest. They have performed two of our three years at Matty Gras and are better each time we see them. They even treated us to their version of Margaritaville - polka-style! This band hails from Rockford, IL.

Closing us out with a trop-rockin' variety of tunes that had everyone dancing, for the second year, Johnny Russler and the Beach Bum Band. These guys, from the South Chicago, area have so much energy and talent. They really got the crowd going with their infectious style. Thoroughly enjoyable as always!

The biggest news is that we raised just under $2,600 for our charity, Children's Hospital! On behalf of all of the MAPA officers thank you to everyone who helped make this a success. Any event of this type takes a tremendous amount of work and we would like you to know that your efforts are greatly appreciated! A big thank you goes out to all those who donated items and gift baskets. There were even members who were unable to attend but took time to send such nice packages, which is what makes this such a great group of people!

Also, many thanks to Matty and Jenny, owners of Matty's Bar & Grille, for hosting us, paying for the bands, the sound equipment, the advertising, etc. Their generosity gives us a chance to create a successful charitable event. Open year round, check out their events and drink specials and drop in for some delicious Cajun eats! Their proceeds from the overall weekend will benefit the Kidney Foundation.

A Huge success once again! THANK YOU ALL! We had a beautiful day for MAPA's annual participation in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk on Milwaukee's lakefront. One of our big charity events each year and one that is near and dear to the hearts of many members.

Let's do it again this year... MAPA Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk on Milwaukee's Lakefront. This is one of most generously supported events by MAPA members for over 10 years. Walk with us on the Milwaukee Lakefront! All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society for this most worthy cause.
Meet at Discovery World at 9:15 am (look for the MAPA banner).
